The point of being mean to someone is to make them feel bad, so of course they will sieze on what ever insecurity, vulnerability or characteristic is available. You don’t even have to mean what you say, and it doesn’t have to be true, it doesn’t matter as long it hurts. That’s the whole point. I do wonder if this can ever be stopped, it seems there always have been and always will be people who feel entitled to push their opinions on others, whether it’s physical control, shaming, gossiping, angry letters in newspapers or online trolls. Yeah when my daughter's old enough for social media am I worried about a 60 year old van driver called Dave calling her a name,. or girls online and in real life who are absolutely vile to each other every single day? I can confirm that abusive, threatening, (extremely) misogynistic messages and conversations are not removed when reported.
